Bearded Dragon Caresheet
Housing. Bearded Dragons should be kept in as large an enclosure that you
can afford. I would recommend at least a 30 gallon long for a single animal .
I find that my breeders do better if kept singly in these size enclosures.
I usually do not see breeding behaviour in these size cages .I have them breed
in a 55 gallon tank or I put them on the floor of the reptile room.
Food. Bearded Dragons will feed on a multitude of insects and small animals to
include .Crickets, Mealworms, waxworms superworms, and pinky mice and an
occasional pinky rat. I feed them their crickets powdered with a good quality
calcium supplement at least twice a week and daily during the breeding season.
Water. I make sure to keep a shallow water dish available at all times .I also
spray my beardies twice a day .I like to soak them once a week to make sure
they are fully hydrated .I have the personal opinion that them babies drink more
than the adults do but they need fresh water all the time all the same.
Breeding.I feed my Bearded Dragons that are at least  18 months old heavily
on as many crickets and greens at they want to eat .I make sure that they are
nice and healthy when the spring breeding season arrives.I keep them together
most of the year but separate them for several weeks before any actual
attempts at breeding occur. I keep the males in the sight of the females .I
typically take the female out of her enclosure and set her on the floor of the
reptile room .The male will see her and begin to bob and display from his cage
.He will after a few moments get very excited and begin to flash his black beard
at which time he is removed from his enclosure and placed in the reptile room
floor. Breeding usually occurs immediately.I like to see them copulate several
times to make sure that she has taken.

Egglaying. This usually occurs in my animals in as little as 3 weeks to 6 to 8
weeks .I prepare a lay cage in which I will have a large amount of sand soil
mixed together so that it holds it's shape..This mound will be 8 to 12 inches
deep .The female will begin to dig and will lay her eggs in this mound.
Immediately after the eggs are laid .I remove the eggs into an incubator .I
incubate these eggs for about 2 months at about 82 to 85 degrees.
